Naisten sisäkausi käynnistyy virallisesti tänä viikonloppuna 6.–7. joulukuuta, kun naisten SM Tour 1 pelataan Iittalassa. Mukana on seitsemän kilpailukykyistä joukkuetta, jotka lähtevät rakentamaan alkukauden asetelmia keskittyen joukkuehenkeen, pelilliseen kehitykseen ja uusien pelaajien esiinmarssiin.

Viima Vintage lähtee turnaukseen rauhallisesti ja kokemusta hyödyntäen. Tavoitteena on mennä peli kerrallaan ja “hioa yhteispeliä, pelata fiksusti ja välttää juoksukilpailuja.” Joukkuehenkeä kuvaillaan hyväksi ja odottavaiseksi ja “veteraanit” nauttivat edelleen jokaisesta pelivuodesta.
Viima luottaa uuteen johtoon ja tuoreeseen taitoon
Viimaa luotsaa uusi valmentaja, Ilkka Vaahtoranta, mikä tekee vuodesta siirtymävaiheen. Kapteeni Kaisa Mäntylä kertoi joukkueen olevan aiempaa nuorempi kokeneiden pelaajien pitäessä taukoa, mutta innostus on korkealla.
”Olemme innoissamme ensimmäisestä turnauksestamme Ilkan johdolla. Tuomme kentälle kaikki uudet taidot ja taktiikat, joita olemme syksyn aikana harjoitelleet,” Mäntylä kommentoi.
Viimalla on laaja rosteri, ja kaksi pelaajaa tekee SM-turnausdebyyttinsä. Mäntylän mukaan joukkueen suurin vahvuus on vahva joukkuehenki, joka näkyy kentällä rohkeutena ja sinnikkyytenä. Huomionarvoisia vahvuuksia ovat Helmi Pikkaraisen varmat heitot sekä taitavan Sanna Jalovaaran paluu kokoonpanoon.

”Tavoitteemme tälle turnaukselle ovat yhteyksien rakentaminen, kovaa pelaaminen ja hauskanpito,” Wessman sanoi.
Joukkueessa on motivoitunut ja innostunut ilmapiiri. Pelillisesti Terror rakentaa strategiaa ”peli peliltä”, ja tekemisen kulmakivenä on kova puolustuspeli. Wessman uskoo, että koko joukkue on täynnä ”kehittyviä lahjakkuuksia”, jotka nostavat peliä viime vuodesta.

Hän mainitsi erityisesti Ella Jakobssonin, joka pelaa ensimmäistä sisäkauttaan.

The indoor Women’s Ultimate season officially kicks off this weekend, December 6th–7th, as the Women’s SM Tour 1 takes place in Iittala. Seven competitive teams will participate, establishing the early season hierarchy through a focus on strong team spirit, strategic development, and the exciting addition of new players across the division.
The overarching goals of this opening tour focus on growth: established clubs are integrating new talents and tactics, setting the stage for intense competition where strong team chemistry will be as critical as execution.
Viima vs. Viima Vintage: A Respectful Rivalry
One of the most anticipated events of the tour is the unique internal matchup between Viima and the veteran squad, Viima Vintage. This clash tests experience against the energy of a developing, youth-focused team, driven by mutual admiration.
Meri Saloila from Viima Vintage expressed the pleasure of facing their club counterparts:
”It’s wonderful that seven teams are participating, and I expect tight battles, great throws, and hopefully seeing new players emerge. It is especially great to play against Viima,” Saloila said. ”We proudly and joyfully appreciate the younger generation’s fantastic development and fighting spirit.”
For Viima Vintage, the approach is steady, focusing on maximizing their experience. Their goal is to ”take it one game at a time” and to ”refine our common play, playing smartly and avoiding running races.” The team atmosphere is described as ”good in an expectant way,” with the veterans ”still enjoying” every year of play.
Viima Embraces New Leadership and Talent
Viima, led by a new coach, Ilkka Vaahtoranta, is embracing a transitional year. Captain Kaisa Mäntylä noted the roster is younger than usual due to experienced players taking a break, but the enthusiasm is high.
”We are excited to play our first tournament under Ilkka’s leadership. We will bring all the new skills and tactics we’ve refined this fall to the field,” Mäntylä commented.
Viima welcomes a large, deep roster, with two players making their SM tournament debut. Mäntylä points to the team’s core strength: ”Viima’s biggest strength is our strong team spirit, which shows on the field as courage and perseverance.” The team’s strong side includes Helmi Pikkarainen’s ”sure throws” and the return of the ”highly skilled Sanna Jalovaara.”
Foundational Focus: Terror and Atletico’s Developmental Goals
Other competitive teams, including Turku Terror and Atletico, are using this early tour as a vital opportunity to integrate new talent and solidify team foundations, all while remaining focused on earning wins.
Turku Terror: Hard D and New Connections
Coach Inka Wessman views the tournament through a lens of growth for Turku Terror, which is a fairly new team with many new players.
”Our expectations for this tournament are to succeed in building up connections during the weekend, play hard, and have a lot of fun,” Wessman stated.
With a highly motivated and excited team atmosphere, their tactical focus is building their strategy ”game by game,” underpinned by a commitment to ”hard D.” Wessman believes the entire squad consists of ”hidden gems bringing our game to the next level from last year.”
Atletico: Finding Rhythm and Utilizing New Blood
Anni Jokinen from Atletico highlighted the importance of translating practice to game execution.
”Expectations include that we do the things that we have practiced, find rhythm and connections with our players on the field. Also, expectations include having some tight yet fun matches,” Jokinen said.
Atletico is focused on strategic and mental strength: ”Finding the rhythm of play, keeping our heads up when mistakes happen, and giving it all on defense.” Jokinen noted the ”overall great atmosphere and new blood (players),” whose eagerness ” also gives the older players energy.” She specifically shouted out newest player Ella Jakobsson, who is playing her first indoor season.

With teams emphasizing player development, defense, and foundational chemistry, the Women’s SM Tour 1 in Iittala will be a strong indicator of who has successfully integrated their off-season work. Players and coaches agree that seeing the commitment and skills of all seven teams is reason enough to be excited for the competitive season ahead.
